There were more people than Gannets at Muriwai yesterday. The path to the viewing points has reopened and word must have travelled fast.
Muriwai gannet colony.
Gannets have a wingspan of almost 2 metres.
They glide effortlessly past vertical coastal cliffs and manoeuvre around offshore sea stacks before plunging vertically into the sea in search of food.
Final approach.
Carrying a small piece of shrubbery to make the nest more comfortable.
I’m cute.
Don’t stare.
It’s a risky business fishing from this outcrop….
…for gannets and humans.
