Hidden in the long grass, Lomandra Longifola.

This grass is everywhere, a kind of goto green scrub for landscaping. It grows from rhizomes and given half a chance forms large tussocks. Tiny flowers lurk in the long grass.

Big tussock, tiny flowers on panicles.

Clusters of stemless flowers grow at nodes on the midrib and side spikes. There are no branches on side spikes.

Very stiff cluster bracts at the base of each flower cluster look a wee bit nasty.

Male and female flowers have six tepals. Inner tepals are larger and yellow coloured. Outer tepals have purplish colour.

Male flowers have six stamens with wide filaments.

Female flowers have an ovary with three compartments. The stigma has three lobes.
