Pansy’s Progress.

Pansies drop seeds where they grow or scatter them to the four winds. I’m not a gardener but have noticed pansies popping up around spaces vacated by the original plants.

This second or third-generation plant was not in good health when I found it in an unused planter. I dug it out and left it in a pot.

Buds unfold slowly.

Winter storms tore holes in the petal fabric and colours faded in places.

Stigma and style with fused ovaries in the shadows. Anthers are preparing for their entrances, nine fused and one spare.

Fast-forward ten days. The petals have gone and the seed pod is growing.

When the seed pod popped, a single row of black seeds lined each of the compartments. I intended to catch the pod opening with the seeds. Went away for a few days and missed all the action. Flowers can be sneaky like that.
