Turns out my latest cactus is a succulent.
It’s taking longer to become a Botanist than I anticipated. Despite the telltale spines, Euphorbia Aeruginosa is a succulent.
Twin Spines.
I was consumed by the stunning detail initially and didn’t appreciate the big picture till later.
It’s not a cactus.
A real botanist would tell you that cactus spines are modified leaves sitting on areoles. This plant has thorns.
Hmm Warning…….
I found this while doing some research on my non cactus.
“If ingested, it can lead to severe gastrointestinal distress, respiratory problems and even death. It is best to keep this plant away from homes or gardens where humans or animals reside.”
Reminds me of an inspirational answer to a 1982 senior school chemistry question. The actual question is irrelevant, however I can’t unremember the answer.
……..Sodium is such a dangerous metal it is only used by idiots and Chemistry teachers!!!
Action at the base.
Branching occurs at or below ground level and above as well. Euphorbia A is an interesting plant even if the shop sold me a succulent disguised as a cactus.
