Dianthus Delight.
A liberal Greek translation of the genus title “Dianthus” is flower of the gods. I thought it referred to the two prominent twirly bits sticking up.
Serrated petal edges. Anthers will never open because i cut the flower off to have a closer look. Stigma looks quite hairy.
A closer look at the bilobed stigma. Hairs increase the stigmatic surface area and trap stray pollen grains.
Spikey hairs are visible on the petal surface. They may act as. A deterrent to herbivores.
