Zombie Apocalithops

Lithops succulents are survivors.

A healthy Lithops plant before zombiefaction.

I wanted to see the inside structure of this succulent so I opened it up with a scalpel.

Balloon shaped cells fill the interior. They store water when the ground is dry and improve photosynthetic efficiency. Light is bounced around internally increasing the likelihood of interaction with chlorophyll molecules. Photographic light boxes use the same principal.

Just a flesh wound.

I never imagined my plant would survive. The open wounds closed slowly while the plant entered a zombie state.

Zombie Apocalithops, the movie.

Zombies come back to life in the movies and it can be quite terrifying. The technical term is a Zombie Apocalypse.

Zombies are usually a bit slow in the movies, i speeded this one up.

The Zombie succulent stirred slowly and began to move. Was it still alive? It threw out a flower in reply. Unlike Zombies in real life this zombified succulent is still able to reproduce.
